Today was an exciting fun day as our high school varsity basketball teams, marching band, and many students and staff headed to Little Caesars Arena to play against Clinton. Between Two Terns
Project Playground is almost underway. We have some seriously exciting updates on the new playground coming to WLES that we want to share with you. Next Friday, around 12:30 p.m. A few WLES 2nd-graders will be joining me and WLES Principal, Sue Wanamaker, for March’s edition of Between Two Terns. You will not want to miss this one!
Invention Convention:
I started my career as a science teacher so the event at WLES next Tuesday is right up my alley. Next Tuesday, February 27, 6-7:30 p.m. is the annual Invention Convention. Families with students in grades preschool-6th grade are invited to a night of hands-on, fun and creative science activities put on by the Ann Arbor Hands on Museum and elementary and preschool staff.
Attendees can expect to enjoy balloon rockets, bridge building, slime, windmills, and wind tunnel flying machines all brought by the Ann Arbor Hands On Museum thanks to a grant and the support of the WLPS PTO.
This event is FREE and students also have the opportunity and are encouraged to display any inventions or projects they have created. Snowcones and pizza by the slice will be available for purchase. Enjoy this opportunity to have some science-inspired family fun.

New this year is our Mandarin Chinese program. It has been a fantastic addition to our Early Childhood and early Elementary curriculum. Our students not only learn a new language; they also learn about Chinese culture. Our Mandarin Chinese teacher, Qian Xu, lead a Chinese New Year celebration at WLES this week.
The students arrived on Tuesday to the entire lobby and hallways transformed. A giant paper dragon created by WLES students and retired WLHS art teacher Krisanne Rea really put students and staff in the spirit, ready to celebrate the year of the dog. Ms. Xu led a school-wide assembly teaching students all about Chinese New Year and to kick off the week filled with activities.
Over the course of three days, in all the students’ specials (art, music, physical education, and Mandarin), students participated in Chinese New Year-themed activities, songs, games and projects and traditions.
It was fun watching our students learn about a different culture, a different celebration, and hear Qian Xu share her traditions from her family with her school family.
