The WLCR Waves is a year-round competitive recreational swim program for ages 5-18. We currently have swimmers from Whitmore Lake, Brighton, Dexter, South Lyon, Plymouth-Canton, Ann Arbor and homeschool groups. The Waves way is to use aquatic sports as a vehicle to develop both physically, mentally, and emotionally healthy individuals and young adults, and to promote teamwork, sportsmanship, self-confidence, discipline, and mutual respect. We provide a structured training regiment to develop swimmers of all techniques and abilities to achieve their personal goals, both in and out of the pool. Swimmers participate in dual meets and a championship meet each season and also have the opportunity to participate in USA Swimming. Parents are expected to attend seasonal parent meetings, volunteer at meets, and provide their swimmers with transportation. Head Coach Ethan Drouillard and Assitant Coach Zack Blair use their expertise and enthusiasm for swimming and the Whitmore Lake community to create fun-filled experience for the swimmers. For more details on the structure of our program, check out the Team Handbook below or contact Coach Ethan at Ethan.Drouillard@wlps.net with any questions.
Head Coach Ethan swam varsity for 3 years at Wayne Memorial High School, where he was a 2-time MISCA qualifier before graduating in 2015. He then went on to swim at Olivet College. He then began his coaching career with the Dearborn Dolphins in 2016, and in 2017 became the Assistant Coach for the Tecumseh Tigersharks, during which time he was also the Head Coach for the Tecumseh Middle School Swim and Dive team. From 2018-2021, Ethan was been the Head Swim Coach of the Life Time Fitness in Canton, where coached numerous Junior Olympic, State, and Zone qualifiers, as well as multiple nationally-ranked athletes. Ethan has been with WLCR since June 2021, and is extremely excited to continue to bring Whitmore Lake to new heights.
Assistant Coach Sami has been around a pool his entire life. Every summer, he would go with his siblings to a public pool and spend the entire day swimming, racing, and playing pool games with everyone else that showed up. Coach Sami’s early development was all self-taught, as he never received formal coaching on the competitive strokes until high school, and therefore a lot of his swimming knowledge has come from trial and error, extensive research, and his various mentors throughout the years. Coach Sami coached for the Life Time Swim Team under Coach Ethan, and was the Interim Head Coach there prior to reuniting with Ethan with the Waves. Coach Sami is also in the National Guard.
