The WLCR Waves is a competitive recreational swim program in the fall, winter and summer season for ages 5-18. We currently have swimmers form Whitmore Lake, Brighton, Dexter and homeschoolers. The team’s objectives are to use aquatic sports as a vehicle to develop both physically, mentally, and emotionally healthy athletes; to create an environment based on teamwork, sportsmanship, and self-confidence; and provide structured training and discipline to develop swimmers technique and ability. Swimmers participate in 5 dual meets and the championship meet at the end of the season. Parents are expected to attend pre-season meetings and volunteer at hosting meets. Swimmers must provide own transportation to and from practice and meets. Head Coach Ben Newcomb and Assistant Coach Mariah LeRolland Wagner help use their expertise and enthusiasm for swimming and the WL Community to create a fun-filled experience for the swimmers. For more details on the structure of our program, check out the Membership Handbook below.
Hello, my name is Ben Newcomb and I love coaching for the Whitmore Lake Swim Club! I swam competitively from 8 to 18 and played water polo at Grand Valley State University, graduating with a degree in Social Studies and Secondary Education. Besides competing, I also have been a swim instructor for ten years, which helped hone my own skills while giving me a chance to improve my coaching style. I look forward to continue coaching for Whitmore Lake and continue its reputation as a competitive, fun program! See you in the pool!
