In 1944, Whitmore Lake Elementary School and Whitmore Lake Middle School were established under Whitmore Lake Public Schools. Whitmore Lake High School was then established, and saw its first graduating class walk shortly after 1950. Over the years, WLPS has grown as an education system serving various students on many unique journeys, including now the WLPS Early Childhood Center for younger children, and Whitmore Lake Community Recreation for athletics.
Since the first graduating class of Whitmore Lake High School shortly after 1950, for over 70 years WLPS has continued as an institution of academic quality that continues to thrive with educational persistence stretching across primary and secondary education. WLPS has a strong foundation built on the past accomplishments of its various public schools, which are all School of Choice.
Indeed, there is a bright future for Whitmore Lake Public Schools as we continue to adapt our academic environments to the rapidly changing world we live in. One of the most exciting factors of our success is the unique body of students enrolled in our public schools. Being a School of Choice district, we’re happy to uphold an inclusive environment where students from all backgrounds are welcome to join us in a successful academic journey. Each day, we look forward to welcoming our students into environments that promote learning, friendship, motivation, and many more character building aspects that we’ve worked hard to create in each of our public schools.
