In-Person Instruction begins August 31 for grades K-12. As previously announced, the first week of school for students K-12 will be half days through September 3. The district will start the year utilizing half days at all levels through September 3.
Last week, WLPS opened its online enrollment program, Schoolmint. As part of enrollment, parents have an option to choose In-Person or the WLPS Virtual Academy. Enrollment must be completed by this Friday, August 21.
I am aware of the many questions parents have regarding the virtual option. We’ve prepared a WLPS Virtual Academy Infographic to give you a better idea of what to expect. I’m also hosting another Zoom Q and A tomorrow, August 19, 11 a.m.-12 p.m. I’ll be speaking mainly to questions on the Virtual Academy; but if you have any questions regarding in-person instruction, you are welcome to join. This will be recorded and posted on our website should you be unable to join. You can find the link to that meeting toward the end of the updated FAQ.
Questions specific to students receiving special needs have been growing. As a result, we have added a section to our FAQ dedicated to addressing how WLPS will provide services to students in the Phase 4 learning plan.
I’m pleased to announce Kids Club will open on August 31. Morning and afternoon care will be provided. Preschool options are being made available beginning September 9. The FAQ will be updated with that information.
Finally, WLES is getting a new facility addition. The WLPS BOE worked with Community Recreation and they recommended spending some of the recreation millage approved by voters last August to build a basketball court behind the recently renovated playground. This project began last week and is expected to be ready for Day 1. There will be kids on our playground using a new court! That will be a great day…a great day to be a Trojan.
