Keep Up The Momentum
I saw the excavator lift the first scoops of asphalt from the WLES parking lot this morning. Shortly after that project started, a crew was onsite to start the playground demolition. Wow, I thought. Yesterday, the lot was full of cars and the playground loaded with kids. Today, a whole new look and a whole new set of priorities and timelines all aimed at making our schools better places for our kids this coming fall.
Thank you to everyone who has been supportive of these projects. Many of the projects scheduled this summer are long overdue. They were planned prior to the passing of a 2016 sinking fund initiative. A moment in time in our district’s history where I felt a good deal of pride. I felt people willing to invest in their hometown schools. I am proud to see the work begin and to eventually show off that investment with a new school year full of kids using new facilities.
Please take some time to evaluate the information we are providing as we ask voters to continue the sinking fund. The ballot initiative will be up for a vote on August 7, and its passage will allow us to keep up the momentum we have built in the past couple of years. This sinking is a bit different than the last one. We can do more than just fix potholes and drains. New laws allow us to use the fund to purchase actual technology devices which are critical features of teaching and learning nowadays as well as use funds to address and security or safety needs. This request directly impacts the classrooms and security of our buildings.
Let’s keep up the momentum and make our schools great places to be Trojans.
