Programs & Services of the Department of Special Education

Whitmore Lake Public Schools believes in balancing inclusion with the general population, and pull out support services to meet every student’s individual needs. The Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is a federal law that guarantees children and youth with disabilities a Free, Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE). Not all programs and services will be provided for each student. An Individualized Education Planning Committee (IEPC) determines which programs and/or services are appropriate for each student.
