About Us: Message from the Superintendent

Welcome to the 2007-2008 school year! My name is Kim Hart and I am pleased to be joining the team of dedicated, enthusiastic individuals that make up the staff of Whitmore Lake Public Schools as your new Superintendent. Please allow me to introduce myself,

I have lived most of my life in Genesee County, and have been in education for 27 years. I started as a paraprofessional in a program for the autistic, followed by nine years of teaching elementary education and special education for the autistic impaired in the Birmingham Public Schools. I was an elementary principal for 14 years before becoming the Superintendent of Goodrich Area Schools in 2004. I have experienced a wide variety of expectations and changes in education since I began my career. One thing that had not changed is the needs of our children. Our children have higher expectations placed on them now more than ever before. The education of all of our children has been, and will always be, my top priority.

My husband, John, and I have two grown sons (John, 28 and Michael, 24) and one dog. We enjoy spending weekends up north at our cabin on Hubbard Lake, south of Alpena. My husband is employed by Genesys Regional Medical Center in Grand Blanc as their head electrician. We are both looking forward to moving to the community just as soon as possible. As a parent myself, I remember very well the days of rushing everyone out the door in the morning, forgetting lunch money and trying to get the kids to bed at a decent time each evening. As parents, the start of a new school year is often more hectic for us than it is for our children!

Whitmore Lake Public Schools has established itself as a district committed to providing an exceptional, personalized education for each and every one of our students. I am looking forward to a great year as we work together to make sure that all of our students are well prepared for life in a global, technologically oriented society.

I am looking forward to meeting students, parents, staff and community members in the upcoming months. Please stop by, give me a call or send an email (kim.hart@wlps.net) if you have a question, thought or concern you would like to share. I would like to hear what you think is great about Whitmore Lake Public Schools and also, what you think we need to enhance or improve upon. Perhaps we’ll meet at a sporting event, in a restaurant, at school, in the grocery store, or at the Post Office. Wherever it may be, please do not hesitate to say “hello” and share your thoughts. In Whitmore Lake, parents and community members are an essential part of our team - a team that is committed to do “what is best for our kids.”

Cordially,
Kimberley A. Hart, Superintendent
